Also available in our Deli. Tomato tapenade, chilli tapenade, apple sultana compote, butternut chutney, carmelised red onion marmelade, onion jam, pear chilli habanero, spicy banana relish, mint beetroot dressing, horseradish mustard, sweet mustard, Blackcurrant thyme jelly, rosemary balsamic jam, bourbon bacon jam.

Backhous. The story behind the oven

It all started in 2016, when Peet bought a hydraulic lift to mount a mini 600kg wood burning oven onto our 'stoep'. There just wasn't any other space than right in the corner of the deck. And so began the proofing and the yeasting and kneading, so that every Friday about four dozen loafs left our little red round dough baker. There's something about getting up before sunrise in Clarens to 'stook' a fire. You see, when you bite into a freshly baked Ciabatta, leaving teeth marks in the butter, it's all worth it.

So when it came to the design of our new restaurant there had to be one special space left open. A special place for a not so mini masonry oven. To share the pleasure of 60 Artisan bread loafs filling this place with such a beautiful aroma that it would be a lesser life lived, had you not smelled the blessing of bread.

When you page through the menu, you will encounter dishes that are served with bread. Those are our mini artisan loafs of which you can choose between Ciabatta, Rye, Wholemeal. All of these are baked with stone ground flour, 100% rye, with a up to 72-hour wild yeast process. Please also feel free to ask your waiter about our free mini Ciabattas for the table.
